Florida glass coverage
Paying for a Jacksonville windshield with insurance.
Florida has its own rules for windshield claims, and they changed in 2023. Here is what the statutes say, in short quotes and plain words, and how a claim goes when we help you file it.

The statutes
Florida glass law, line by line
We read each statute on flsenate.gov on October 16, 2026. Quoted words are the law's own; the rest is our summary. Your policy wording still decides your claim.
| Statute | What it says | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Fla. Stat. § 627.7288 | On a policy with comprehensive or combined additional coverage, the deductible “shall not be applicable to damage to the windshield.” | $0 Deductible with Comprehensive Coverage, for the windshield. Door glass, back glass and sunroofs still go under your normal deductible. |
| Fla. Stat. § 627.7291 | On a personal auto policy, an insurer or anyone acting for it “may not require a claimant to use a particular company or location” for a windshield claim. | Your insurer can suggest a glass company for your windshield, but it cannot make you use that one. |
| Fla. Stat. § 627.7289 | For policies issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2023, an assignment of post-loss benefits under a motor vehicle policy is void and unenforceable. | We never ask you to sign your insurance benefits over to us. The claim stays yours. |
| Fla. Stat. § 559.920(17) | A repair shop may not offer a rebate, gift, gift card, cash, coupon or anything else of value in exchange for making a glass claim, calibration included. | Offering money or a gift card for a glass claim is illegal in Florida. We never do it. |
Check every line against your own policy. The Florida Statutes are online at flsenate.gov.
The claim
How a Jacksonville glass claim goes with us
First, a look at your policy
Give us the insurer's name and your policy number. Before any date is set, we confirm that comprehensive coverage is on the car and, for side or rear glass, how big the deductible is.
You start the claim, we help you file it
Most Florida insurers take glass claims by phone or in their app. We stay on the line or on hand with the part number, the price and our business details. It remains your claim from start to finish.
A time and a place
Pick a slot between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday, at the house, the office or the complex.
The bill goes to the insurer
Once covered work is done, we invoice the insurance company. Where a deductible is owed, it is paid to us by you; we never cover, waive or refund it.
Insurance companies
Insurers we work with
Every insurance company is welcome here. Navy households around NAS Jacksonville and Mayport often carry USAA, and that claim runs through the same four steps as any other. So do GEICO, State Farm, Progressive and Allstate claims, and we help you file each one. Mentioning an insurer by name is not a partnership: no insurer endorses or recommends Bang AutoGlass, and we do not represent one.
Suppose the claims line suggests a different glass company for your windshield. On a personal auto policy, § 627.7291 says the insurer may not require you to use it; a suggestion is all it can be.
Florida coverage questions
Have your policy card handy and call our Jacksonville line, (904) 900-2264. Our (877) line, (877) 994-5277, is answered 24/7.
Does Florida still replace windshields for free?
Florida law does not make the glass free. It says your deductible does not apply to windshield damage when your policy has comprehensive coverage (Fla. Stat. § 627.7288). Without comprehensive coverage, the cost is yours. We check which you have before booking.
A glass company offered me cash to file a claim. Is that allowed?
No. Since 2023, Fla. Stat. § 559.920(17) bars repair shops from offering cash, gift cards, rebates or anything else of value for making a glass claim. We do not make any such offer.
Can I sign my insurance benefits over to the glass company?
Not on a policy issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2023. Fla. Stat. § 627.7289 makes those assignments void, and we never ask for one.
Will a glass claim raise my rates?
Ask your insurer how a windshield claim may affect your policy. We cannot predict that, and none of the statutes on this page answers it.
Is my sunroof covered the same way as my windshield?
No. The Florida rule in § 627.7288 names the windshield only. A sunroof, back glass or door window claim goes under your policy's normal deductible.
