Auto glass for NAS Jax, Mayport and Blount Island families.

Jacksonville is a Navy town with a Marine Corps command and a submarine base just over the Georgia line. Here is how a windshield or window replacement fits around gate rules, duty schedules and moves.

On base or off

Getting through the gate

Whether an outside contractor can drive onto a base to replace glass is the installation's decision, not ours, and the rules can change with the security level. Ask your command or the base pass office before you book an on-base address. If the answer is no, or you would rather not deal with it, we meet the car off base: at home, at a workplace, or in a lot near the gate where the owner allows it.

NAS Jacksonville publishes three gates. The Yorktown Gate is open around the clock. The Birmingham Gate, south of it, is open 5 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. A separate Commercial Gate, north of Yorktown, is open 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and closed on weekends. If a contractor visit is allowed, ask which gate it should use; a weekday slot may be the only one that fits.

Base housing can have its own rules on vehicle work, separate from the gate. The housing office is the place to check.

Duty schedules

Deployments, duty days and moves

  1. Before a deployment

A crack that is small now can run while the car sits through a Florida summer. If you can, replace the glass before you leave, so the car is ready for whoever drives it next.

  2. While you are away

A spouse or family member can meet the technician, hand over the keys and approve the work. What matters for the job is access to the car and the VIN.

  3. Ship and duty days

Installs run Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. Booking at the house on a day off, or at a workplace lot off base, keeps it away from the gate.

  4. A PCS move

Moving away from Jacksonville? Get cracked glass replaced before the packers come and before a long drive north on I-95 or west on I-10. Moving in? Book once you know where the car will be parked.

Insurance

Claims when the policyholder is away

Many military households carry USAA, and plenty carry GEICO, State Farm, Progressive or another company. Every insurer is welcome here, and the steps are the same with each. Naming an insurer is not a partnership: none of them endorses Bang AutoGlass, and we do not represent any of them.

If the person named on the policy is deployed or at sea, ask the insurer who else may open or discuss the claim. Some insurers accept a spouse listed on the policy; others want the policyholder or a power of attorney. That is the insurer's rule, and your command's legal assistance office can help with a power of attorney if one is needed.

For the windshield, Florida's rule is that the deductible does not apply on a policy with comprehensive coverage. A door window, back glass or sunroof claim goes under the normal deductible. We check your coverage before booking and help you file. The insurance page has the Florida law in detail.

Before you book

Five things to have ready

  • The VIN, from the lower corner of the windshield, the driver door frame or the insurance card.
  • The address where the car will be, and whether it is on base, in base housing or off base.
  • If on base: confirmation that a contractor may come on, and which gate to use.
  • The name of whoever will hand over the keys, if it is not you.
  • The insurer's name and policy number, or a note that you are paying yourself.

We do not offer a military discount. The price you get is the same price everyone gets.

Military family questions

Ask us on our Jacksonville line, (904) 900-2264, or by text at (877) 350-5962.

Can you replace my windshield on base at NAS Jax or Mayport?

Only if the base allows an outside contractor in, which is the installation's call. Check with your command or the pass office first. If not, we meet the car at home, at work or in a permitted lot near the gate.

My spouse is deployed and the insurance is in their name. Can I file the claim?

Ask the insurer. Some accept a spouse listed on the policy, others need the policyholder or a power of attorney. Once the insurer confirms, we help you file and replace the glass with you at the car.

Do you go to Kings Bay?

No. Kings Bay is in Georgia, outside our Jacksonville area. If you live in Yulee or Fernandina Beach and commute there, we can replace the glass at your home.

Is there a military discount?

No. We do not offer one. Everyone gets the same price for the same glass.
